President Outings – January 2023

January began slowly but that quickly changed. I returned to touching base with members by sending out cards and emails and making phone calls to shut-ins or some who were not well. For Councils with fewer members to reach out to these members, they appreciate any communication that comes their way.

Making sandwiches for Sacred Heart Parish of the First Peoples was a new initiative started at my Council by one of our members. It quickly became something many of our members became involved in. We made our sandwiches, brought them to our Council meeting, and by the next morning they were delivered to Sacred Heart Parish. It was not surprising to see goodie bags of chocolate and cookies also being included!

On the weekend of January 14th, five of St. Joseph’s Basilica Parish Council members, including myself, spoke at one of the five masses at our Parish. We greeted women after the mass and handed out a save-the-date card for our “Come and See” coffee information sessions the following week. On January 25th at an afternoon and evening session, we were impressed by the number of women who came out to be updated on the latest League news and an impressive number signed up as new members! All in attendance were very interested in the short videos, off the national website, that were shown explain our history and the reason we exist.

Having personally signed up a couple of the new members, I then took to one of my favourite pastimes – drinking coffee! I met with these new members to get to know them a little better. On another occasion, Margot who transferred from Saskatoon, joining Our Lady of Loretto – CFB Edmonton (local Military Ordinariate) and I met with Ethi, one of our new members. These new relationships can undoubtedly be wonderful stepping stones to understanding the powerful sisterhood in the League!

January’s outings have been rounded out with final touches being put on Nationals upcoming visit to Ottawa to meet with Federal Ministers, and hopefully the Prime Minister, and planning for my Unity Outreach visit to St. John’s, NL and upcoming board meetings.

As I am writing three days into February, I have decided to make an exception and include some February photos of an outing with a friend to the Edmonton Muttart Conservatory. It was my end-of-the-week CWL break. We all need those breaks. My love for taking flower photos – well I was like a kid in a candy store. I hope they bring a smile to your face!
