Implementation Committee Update—November 2023

Eligibility for Office—Maybe Change is Coming?

The redesign criteria and eligibility working group is looking at the possibility of redesigning the eligibility to run for office at higher levels (diocese, province, national). One of the working group’s first tasks was to look at the past and current criteria for running for office. The current eligibility rules for who can run for office have been the same since 1968. A lot has changed since 1968—the criteria for eligibility for office may need updating. This working group will be investigating that possibility.

The working group members are learning about best practices in filling positions on boards of other national organizations. They are working hard to learn as much as possible in order to make informed decisions. In early 2024, a survey will be circulated to current and immediate past national, provincial and diocesan executive members and life members. They will have well-informed suggestions that reflect where the League needs to be in the years to come.

The working group’s final product will be its recommendations to the national executive/board, which should be ready by the end of June 2024.
