Sisters in the League,

February is the month that we are commercially reminded that “love is in the air”. We take the
time to let that special someone know how much we love them. Florists and chocolatiers surely
look forward to this day. Members on the other hand, know that God is love and His love is felt
and shared every day.

The “1” campaign promotion for December was “It Begins with ‘1’” and for the month of January
it was “Make a Difference”. One way to begin with “1” and make a difference is to:

“Love the ‘1’ You’re With”
This month serves as a reminder of the precious gift of love in its many different forms. God was
the first to show unconditional, infinite love and sacrifice. “For God so loved the world, that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have
everlasting life.” (Jn. 3:16). Jesus showed the special bond of love between a mother and a son.
He also showed the love between brothers and sisters, the love of family and for His church.

There is a special love within the sisterhood of the League that is demonstrated in so many ways.
Members from across Canada, many of whom will not meet each other, hold each other up in
prayer and send cards to show they care. Many have forged friendships over the years. Members
can be relied upon to take care of the tasks at hand. Members are mentors, and they are encouragers
of those taking on leadership positions.

Then there are the many members who work silently in the background. These members are happy
to work for the good of the League, never seeking attention or recognition. As wonderful as it is
to focus on recruiting new members, it is important that these members are not taken for granted.

Let’s take time to make that “1” call, write that “1” email, and send out that “1” note. Make a point
of visiting that “1” member; and my favourite, giving “1” hug. Often, no words are necessary.
Holding someone’s hand in silence can work wonders. “1” thank you or “1” compliment can go a
long way in lifting someone’s spirit. Who says valentines are only for the young? There is no age
limit when it comes to love!

Wouldn’t it be nice to send out a handwritten note to let a member know how much you care?
Remember it is the little things that usually have the greatest impact. Let’s spread the love!
Your sister in the League,

Betty Colaneri
National Vice-President
