“Christ leads us to go out from ourselves more and more,

to give ourselves and to serve others.”

(Pope Francis)

My sisters in the League,

It is truly an honour to be elected as national vice-president of this amazing organization. I am humbled by the many members who have offered prayers of support and encouragement and have promised to continue to do so. I pray that God sends His Holy Spirit to strengthen me so that, along with your prayers, I can best serve the League and His people. It is when I am at service to others that I am my happiest.

A brief recap about myself. My husband and I have been married for 39 years and we have two sons, Nicholas 36, and Christopher 32. We live on a vineyard in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario and run a family business, a winery. I love looking out at the vines as it reminds me of one of my favourite bible verses, “I am the vine, you are the branches…”(John 15:5). It also reminds me that with God all things are possible. I have been a member of the League for 37 years, more than half of my life! You may have already read my biography that has been posted on the website which lists the many positions I have held in the League.

These are exciting times! At the national annual meeting of members this August, the new structure of the League was put into effect. Some councils have already moved into the new format and more will be doing so with their upcoming elections. It will be wonderful to have all councils in this format moving forward.

As the saying goes, there is no “I” in team. In the words of Pope Francis, “Because all creatures are connected, each must be cherished with love and respect, for all of us as living creatures are dependent on one another.” Together we can do great works for the League, God and Canada.

I look forward to working together as we strive towards revitalizing and rejuvenating the League!

Your sister in the League,

Betty Colaneri

National Vice-President
