A reminder that the League Prayers booklet (#168/169) has been updated with 13 prayers created by League sisters. It will be a great resource for members.
Also, the Handbook for Chairpersons of Faith, Service and Social Justice (#614) was recently revised. This handbook provides a better understanding of each chairperson’s roles and responsibilities. It will also guide councils when deciding on initiatives and setting priorities.
The policy and procedures regarding deceased members are found in the National Manual of Policy and Procedure (#615). While this falls under the vice-president’s purview, chairpersons of faith at all levels should be promptly notified about a deceased member to ensure their council’s Book of Life is current.
On September 7th, Pope Leo XIV canonized Blessed Pier Giogro Frassati (born 1901) and Blessed Carlo Acutis (born 1991) as the first saints of the new pontificate. A June 27th article in The Catholic Register reports that the pope’s choice to canonize the two together highlights the church’s universal call to holiness—that we are all called to use our unique gifts to reach holiness. Both young men demonstrated their faith from a very young age, despite being raised in homes with non-practicing family members.
The League’s National Faith Day is September 20th. Celebrated annually on the third Saturday in September, this day is meant to foster spiritual development and celebrate the graces received through members’ service. Parish councils are encouraged to organize a gathering with a guest speaker, participate in or host a prayer service or welcome other sisters in the League to speak about other Catholic women’s organizations in their home country. October is the month of Mary—a time when devotion and prayer to our Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, are encouraged. Devote extra time to the Holy Rosary.
I am truly blessed to have been chosen to be the national chairperson of faith for the next two years. May Our Lady of Good Counsel continue to guide us and inspire us on our journey together.
