Resolution 2002.12: Child Pornography

Whereas, The Catholic Women’s League of Canada has consistently opposed all forms of pornography and has lobbied government for stricter laws on pornography; and

Whereas, On March 26, 2002, the British Columbia Supreme Court ruled that written material describing “sadomasochistic scenes of violence and sex directed at boys generally 12 years of age and younger” has artistic merit and is legal; therefore, be it

Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 82nd annual national convention assembled, request the federal government to legislate immediately that any written materials or other representation depicting child pornography has no artistic merit nor any educational, scientific or medical purpose.
