Resolution 2000.02 The Prohibition of the Sale of Human Embryonic or Foetal Tissue, or Reproductive Services

Whereas, Extensive research is being conducted regarding human reproductive and genetic technologies and services, and

Whereas, Commercialization of human reproductive services and foetal and human reproductive tissue is contrary to respect for human dignity and contributes to the exploitation of women, and

Whereas, There is no legislation in Canada regarding the commercialization of human reproductive and foetal tissue and human reproductive services, and

Whereas, Members of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada respect and value human life, from fertilization to natural death, therefore be it

Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada in 80th annual national convention assembled, urge the federal government of Canada to immediately enact legislation prohibiting the sale or exchange of any human embryonic or foetal tissue or human reproductive services.

 

Detailed Action Plan

Write personal letters urging the federal minister of health to introduce legislation prohibiting the sale of human tissue for any purpose, including reproductive, therapeutic or research purposes.
Write the federal minister of justice urging that legislation be enacted to prohibit the sale of human tissue for any purpose, including reproductive, therapeutic or research purposes.
Write letters to your provincial/territorial ministers of health urging them to enact legislation prohibiting the sale of human tissue for any purpose, including reproductive, therapeutic or research purposes.
Invite an informed speaker to discuss implications in the ever-changing science of human reproduction and related health issues.  Discuss information with friends/neighbours.
