It is my pleasure to address members across Canada as we have experienced or will shortly experience diocesan and provincial conventions. I have visited several provinces and dioceses and have been so amazed at the work done and initiatives taken by members and councils.
The first item I would like to mention is the retirement of Director of Administration Kim Scammell, who will retire on October 31st. Kim has been with the League for 26 years! Her devotion to the League and its members has been stellar. She has managed the national office in Winnipeg and oversaw all things “CWL” with great professionalism. We will miss her. The national administrative committee is now preparing to advertise for her position.
With this mailing, you will find the initiatives in which national officers are involved. I strongly encourage you to take the time to read the communiqués, review the information and then discuss with your executive what you will do to follow through with your council. It is important that we all contribute to similar projects and initiatives.
The national convention and annual meeting of members will be held in Toronto, August 11–13, at the Marriott Downtown at CF Toronto Eaton Centre. Space is limited, so I hope that you will register soon and try to attend. We are also offering virtual participation for those who cannot attend—please join in from home or at your parish together. Information is on the national website.
The World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations (WUCWO), to which the League belongs, is hosting its North American Region Conference on Sunday, August 10th , immediately before the national convention. It is an opportunity for members to hear the good work of WUCWO from a global perspective. Honorary Life Member Barb Dowding is the vice-president for North America and will be hosting the conference.
National Past President Fran Lucas has been busy with her committee reviewing the National Manual of Policy and Procedure—a very arduous undertaking. I encourage provincial and diocesan councils to review their policy and procedures manual on a regular basis.
