Members are often curious about the way the three standing committees intersect with one another to live out the League’s mission of being called to “grow in faith, and to witness to the love of God through ministry and service.” The clearest explanation of this can be found in the Handbook for Chairpersons of Faith, Service and Social Justice (#614)

The standing committees of faith, service and social justice are integral to the League’s mission. Each focus on a different dimension of gospel living—enabling members to grow through prayer, action and advocacy. Together, they foster leadership, a spirit of service and a prophetic voice within the church and broader society.

Faith nurtures the spiritual life of members by deepening their relationship with God through prayer, liturgy, education and the sacraments. It grounds the League in Catholic doctrine and teaching and inspires action through reflection on scripture and church tradition.

Service transforms faith into action through charitable outreach, particularly by living out the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. This committee leads hands-on efforts to care for those in need—offering practical help, compassion and presence.

Social justice moves members beyond charity to systemic change. Rooted in Catholic social teaching, it promotes dignity, equality and justice for all through awareness, challenging unjust societal structures and advocating for policies that uphold the common good.
