Talking Points on Charitable Status and MAiD Advanced Directives

URGENT

My dear sisters in the League,

With the 2025 federal election having taken place, there are opportunities to address matters of significant concern to the League. Two particular items have come forward that would benefit from a national response from members:

  1. The protection of the charitable status of pro-life and religious organizations
  1. Change in consent procedure for medical assistance in dying to that of advanced requests

This communiqué includes resources developed by the national social justice subcommittee members for use by members and councils in discussing or addressing these topics with your newly elected or re-elected member of parliament. Specifically, you will find:

  • A background document describing the specific concerns regarding both topics
  • Seven documents including talking points, templates for a letter-writing campaign and a petition for each concern.

You are encouraged to choose the option(s) that aligns best with your particular need as an individual or a council.

To find out who your member of parliament (MP) is:

  • Type the name of your constituency or your postal code.
  • Click on your MP’s name to access their contact information.

Thank you so much for your time and attention to this important initiative.

Our Lady of Good Counsel, pray for us in these challenging times.

Glenda Carson

National Chairperson of Social Justice
