It’s Annual Report Time Again—Is It Worthwhile?

Today, parish councils will receive information on how to complete this year’s annual report survey. This communiqué explains why annual reports truly matter.

Annual reports are an important part of how a national not-for-profit organization like The Catholic Women’s League of Canada stays accountable and organized. When parish councils complete the national annual report survey, they help with national planning, public accountability and good decision-making. The report shows the council’s activities, successes and challenges, and how it participated in national projects and initiatives supported by the League’s financial and human resources.

Because the national report is the same across Canada, the information gathered is consistent. When all the reports are compiled, the national annual report gives a clear picture of the organization by bringing together reliable information from many councils and showing the overall story.

Every level of the League collects information for its own purpose. Diocesan and provincial councils also generate annual reports focused on local and regional needs. All levels of reporting are important. National reports ensure accountability, while diocesan and provincial reports strengthen the League’s structure by promoting unity and clear communication.

Annual reports also serve as valuable historical records. Looking back at past reports helps leaders see trends, understand challenges and plan more effectively—especially when new leaders take on their roles.

At the parish level, annual reporting helps councils reflect on how they participated in national, provincial and diocesan work. It also highlights gaps in communication, identifies strengths and points to areas for improvement and future goal-setting.

Annual reports may not be the most exciting task, but they are much more than paperwork. They support the League’s mission, keep members united and preserve our shared history. By completing the report each year, councils strengthen the League and support its mission and goals.

Please ask your diocesan counterparts and parish vice-presidents with no diocesan council, to encourage councils to take time to complete the annual report survey. Each year, executive officers work to make the process easier while still gathering the information needed to help the League grow. Each council’s voice is important and needs to be included in the national picture.

Your sister in the League,

Glenda Carson
