Please forward this message to chairpersons of faith

Dear sisters in the League,

In his first greeting after being elected, Pope Leo XIV reminds us that “God loves us, God loves you all, and evil will not prevail! All of us are in God’s hands. So, let us move forward, without fear, together, hand in hand with God and with one another other!”

Advent ushers in a new Liturgical year, Year A, on November 30th and will focus on the “Gospel of Matthew.” Advent is a time to prepare for the arrival of Jesus at his birth. It is a uniquely joyous and hopeful season in the church as Catholics focus on hope, peace, joy and love.

During this season of Advent, I encourage chairpersons of faith to use the resources on the national website. Under Prayers and Hymns, look for An Advent Reflection (#704) and then scroll to the bottom of the page under Advent to find Advent Session Based on Laudato Si’ and Advent Session No. 2, also based on Laudato Si’

“Recitation of the Most Holy Scriptural Rosary” will be held monthly at 6:00 p.m. CST beginning on Sunday, December 7th. It will rotate days each month to recite all the Mysteries. Registration is not required; however, there will be a limit of 250 attendees. Dates to rememberDecember 7th, January 5th, February 3rd and March 4th. Contact national office for the link.

“Deceased Member Reporting Information Session” (January 27th): Members have been asking for information on how to report a deceased member. There will be a virtual information session on January 27th at 5:00 p.m. CST. Again, registration is not required; however, the maximum capacity is 250 attendees. Contact national office for the link.

Way of the Cross Webinar (February 22ndis also being plannedWatch for the poster advertising the event with the registration/meeting details and link.

World Day of Prayer (March 6th): Councils and members are encouraged to share in this global ecumenical movement led by Christian women. This year’s theme is I Will Give You Rest: Come. The service, prepared by Christian women from Nigeria, is based on scripture from Matthew 11:25-30. These women offer insights into finding rest in God, and their work shows us that true rest is about transformation through God’s grace and community support—not just physical relief.

Lenten Webinar (March 22nd): Watch for a poster advertising a Lenten Webinar on March 22nd. Registration details and a link will be included with the poster.

Delexi Te: Pope Leo XIV released his first apostolic exhortation entitled Delxi Te (I have found you), which focuses on the church’s care for the poor. The Holy Father notes that almsgiving holds a unique power that draws us close to the poor, allowing us to meet Christ in them and transform our own hearts. Delexi Te is an exhortation and completion of works begun by Pope Francis and a follow-up to Delexi Nos, the inseparability of love for God and love for the poor.

The workshop presented at the national convention in Toronto, entitled “Lead Us Closer to You Lord,” will be available soon on the national website as a resource for councils. It is a great workshop on creating prayers and prayer services and will be a wonderful resource that can be adapted to suit any council’s toolbox.

On October 16th, the Catholic News Agency reported that the company that produced “The Chosen” is releasing a new animated series made with families in mind. “The Chosen Adventures” is a new series that follows Abby, a nine-year-old, and her best friend, Joshua, as they navigate life in the city of Capernaum. They meet a wise carpenter, Jesus of Nazareth, who changes the way they see the world. The series consists of 14 11-minute episodes and aired on Prime Video on October 17th and is a great introduction, or reintroduction, into the story of Jesus.

From November 27th to December 2nd, the Holy Father will travel to Iznik, Turkey, the site of the ancient city of Nicaea, to celebrate the 1,700th anniversary of the Nicene CreedThis pilgrimage is to promote Christian unity. Please ask your diocesan counterparts to encourage members to take time during a council meeting to explore the Nicene Creed and its meaning for members.

Spiritual Advisors: Chairpersons of faith at all levels are encouraged to continue building relationships with their council’s spiritual advisor and to engage them in planning spiritual programs. The workshop series #832 A-E on the national website is for spiritual advisors.

As members celebrate the joy of Christmas and look forward to the New Year, we also look forward to a new theme. We are asked to remember the passion of Christ’s heart, that sacrificial love for humanity that Jesus holds for us. The love that allowed him to give up his life for all humanity.

Blessings,

Karen Rossiter
