Greetings, sister chairpersons of faith,

As we start a new journey with a new national executive/board, let us be ever grateful for all the wonderful blessings bestowed on us. I am pleased to have been elected to the national executive and chosen to lead as we walk together and grow our faith. If you are curious about me, please see my biography on the national website under Meet Our Executive.

Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope is moving along, and Catholics are into the final quarter of this most holy year. The new pontiff, Pope Leo XIV, has offered 16 public Masses in 14 weeks as part of this jubilee year of hope.

In August at the Jubilee of Youth in Rome, more than one million young people were in attendance. In his address, Pope Leo XIV quoted St. Augustine’s Confessions, “You called, you shouted, and you broke through my deafness… I have tasted you, now I hunger and thirst for more…”

Back in February, an article from Ministry Forum entitled “The Next Generation and Faith: What Are Today’s Youth Searching For?” summarized what needs to be done in faith communities such as parishes and League councils. The closing statement for the article stated it is “an invitation to reflect, discuss, and explore alongside young people rather than trying to ‘fix’ their faith. The next generation is searching—not necessarily for the church as it has always been, but for meaning, purpose, and belonging.”

Please ask your diocesan counterparts to encourage councils to reach out to young parishioners. Christian youth, particularly Generation Z, are seeking spiritual engagement. They are looking for intentional support and resources to live out their faith. The League can offer a purpose and a deeper faith. Give them faith projects so their charisms and gifts shine—this is my challenge to you. Youth in Canada are asking for help. It is up to members to step up and say Here I am Lord, send me! to answer their calls and give them a deeper faith.

May the Holy Spirit and Our Lady of Good Counsel continue to guide and bless us “For God and Canada.”

Blessings,

Karen Rossiter
