A Message from National President Shari Guinta

January 2025

Happy New Year!

Is time going faster, or is it just me? It seems that in the blink of an eye, another year has passed. Here we are in 2025.

2025 is a Jubilee Year, the year of hope! The Holy Father has declared this year as the year of hope, and I am sure all would agree that we need hope in this troubled world.

In his address to Taizé young people, the Holy Father said, “Hope overcomes every fatigue, every crisis, and every anxiety, giving us a strong motivation to move forward, because it is a gift we receive from God Himself: He gives meaning to our time, illuminates our path, and shows us the direction and goal of life.”

Pope Francis invites us to walk through that holy door and to become pilgrims of hope. The women of the League are, in my opinion, pilgrims of hope. We pray, we work and we strive for peace and justice in our communities and the world. The work is often difficult and frustrating, and that is where hope comes in. Hope for success in our struggles for fairness and kindness and care for those on the margins, those who cannot speak for themselves, those who have no voice, the unborn, the ill, the homeless, the mentally ill and all those who face injustice in the world. We pray and have hope for our human brothers and sisters.

In this Jubilee Year, I pray that we continue, with even more diligence, our vision of justice for all. We have responded to our theme, Here I am Lord, send me, and with hope in our hearts, we will go. We will do and succeed in doing God’s work for his people.

May you be blessed, my sisters, with the strength and wisdom offered by our Lord and Saviour in the work that you do “For God and Canada” with hope in your hearts and a song of praise on your lips.

Best wishes for a Happy and Blessed New Year!
