Please forward this message to presidents.

“The Lord set His heart on you and chose you” (Deut 7:7).

My dear sisters in the League,

You are no doubt preparing for your upcoming conventions. Conventions are the perfect opportunity for members to gather in sisterhood, rejuvenate their spirits, share experiences and learn from one another. I look forward to the privilege of joining some of you at your conventions in the months ahead.

Preparations for the national convention in Halifax are also well underway. The convention planning committee continues to work diligently to ensure that members enjoy a wonderful, memorable experience. The program will include engaging speakers and presenters, resolutions, informative displays and a variety of activities. Above all, it promises to be a faith-filled gathering for members.

As provincial presidents, please promote the national convention often within your provinces and invite members to attend. It is a wonderful event that offers members an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the League and to appreciate the important work carried out at the national level.

This year, a different format will be introduced for the Sunday of convention. On Sunday afternoon, a meet and greet titled “Ignite Your Passion with the Joy of Sisterhood” will be held. This informal social gathering will provide members with an opportunity to meet and interact with members of the national executive/board, including the officers, spiritual advisor, provincial presidents and the new director of administration.

The intention is to provide a welcoming environment where members can connect with the board before the official opening of convention. I hope this gathering will help set a warm, positive tone for the days that follow. It will also allow members to ask questions they may feel hesitant to ask during the convention, including questions of a more personal nature.

You and your incoming president, if applicable, are most welcome to represent your provincial council together. Please inform your counterparts about this gathering and encourage members who plan to attend the convention to participate.

To those who will soon pass the gavel to a new provincial president, I extend my sincere gratitude on behalf of the board for your dedicated service. Your leadership within your province and your representation of members at national meetings have been greatly appreciated. You have served your provincial councils with distinction, and members should take great pride in the work you have accomplished.

I also invite you to prayerfully discern whether to allow your name to stand for service at the national level when the time comes. As the quote at the top of the communiqué reminds us, you have been chosen by God to help fulfill His mission.

As provincial presidents, you play an important role in preparing the vice-president for future leadership. It is essential to establish a transition or “onboarding” process to help her prepare for the responsibilities ahead. This preparation may include reviewing board meeting procedures, discussing the expectations of the role and sharing the responsibilities that accompany the presidency. Ensuring she is well prepared will help provide her with comfort and help provide continuity and strength in leadership within the League.

“The Heart of Jesus is the ultimate symbol of God’s mercy” (Pope Francis).

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to bless you with courage and strength as you continue your service to God and the League.

Your sister in the League,

Betty Colaneri

National President
