Resolution 1999.06: Unrelated Bone Marrow Donor Registry Program

Whereas, There is confusion and misinformation in the public perception of the Unrelated Bone Marrow Donor Registry (UBMDR) program; and

Whereas, The probability of obtaining an unrelated donor match ranges from one in 4,000 to one in 750,000 and the possibility is smaller for less populous ethnic groups; and

Whereas, The UBMDR is now under the Canadian Blood Services mandate; therefore be it

Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 79th annual national convention assembled, urge councils to become aware of the requirements and expectations of the Unrelated Bone Marrow Donor Registry Program by hosting or attending information sessions and/or inviting guest speakers to their meetings; and be it further

Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 79th annual national convention assembled, urge council members who are eligible to consider this gift of life by joining the Unrelated Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
