Resolution 1997.05: Pesticides and Herbicides: Hazards and Alternatives

Whereas, pesticides and herbicides used in residential areas place everyone, especially young children, pregnant women, senior citizens, chemically sensitive persons and pets at increased risk of health problems; and

Whereas, ecological, non-toxic, effective alternatives to chemical treatments do exist; therefore, be it

Resolved, that the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 77th annual national convention assembled, urge councils at all levels to become informed about
a) the hazards of using pesticides and herbicides
b) the benefits of using non-toxic alternatives on private property, parks, school grounds, roadsides, churches, golf courses and cemeteries; and be it further

Resolved, that the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 77th annual national convention assembled, urge members to make inquiries in their communities as to pesticide and herbicide usage, and recommend the use of non-toxic alternatives to reduce health risks.
