A shoot shall come out from the stock of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.
Isaiah 11: 1
Happy Advent!
The verse from Isaiah is so beautiful because it gives people hope that this beautiful branch– Jesus–will bring light to a dark world. Members wait in joyful hope of His entry into the world.
Anniversary Celebrations
“Introduced in 1988, the council anniversary certificate is awarded by diocesan councils to parish councils in recognition of years of service” (National Manual of Policy and Procedure, page 36). While most councils have only to look at their charter to review the date of inception, some councils may have had years when membership dues were not collected for one reason or another. In such cases, councils are encouraged to check with national office to ensure that the years of service are the same before planning celebrations for significant milestones. Please refer to the National Manual of Policy and Procedure, page 44, for information regarding status. The national office keeps a file folder for every council in the organization. Information communicated between councils and the office regarding membership ensures the information on the membership database compares with the council communications.
Membership Fees
The membership fees are due to councils on January 1, 2017 for the calendar year of 2017. Many councils collect fees prior to that date in order to submit per capita fees to national office at that time. Now that 654 councils submit this information on-line, fees can be instantly remitted using the automatic deduction form. Membership Coordinator Amanda McCormick works tirelessly to manage membership and answer questions from members. For your information, as of November 30, 2016, more than 6,000 memberships have already been received for 2017. The sooner the council submits its membership, the sooner the diocesan and provincial treasuries receive their portions.
 Annual Reports
Per the policy, annual reports are to be submitted as follows:
 FROM   TO      BY
*Parish chairpersons     Diocesan Chairpersons    December 15
(*Completed via the newly initiated online reporting system)
Diocesan Chairpersons    Diocesan President & Provincial Chairpersons February 15
Diocesan President    Provincial President     March 1
Provincial Chairpersons   Provincial President & National Chairpersons March 15

Oral Reports at Annual Meetings/Conventions
The Guidelines for Oral Reports can be reviewed in the National Manual of Policy and Procedure on page 85. As many parish councils will be having their annual meetings in January or February, it may be a good time to note that “the oral report should be an update from the time of the written report…”.  Report on where you see the council going into the future.
May God bless all the good works of your councils, as with One Heart, One Voice and One Mission: Palliative and Hospice Care we move forward into 2017 inspired by the spirit.
I wish all my dear sisters in the League a joyous, peaceful, and hope-filled Christmas season after all our expectant waiting during this Advent season.
Your League Sister,
Anne-Marie Gorman
National President-Elect and Chairperson of Organization
