Christian Family Life Communique #6

National Chairperson of Christian Family Life Doreen Gowans, January 25, 2018

“But do not forget this: if the ‘dialect’ is missing, if at home you do not speak the language of love between parents, the transmission of the Faith is not so easy, it cannot be done. Do not forget. Your task is to transmit the Faith but to do it with the language of the love of your home, the language of the Family.” (Pope Francis)

Christian Family Life Workshops: available on the national website under resources – 800 Series. #809 – Euthanasia and #825 Workshop on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide both deal with the topic of euthanasia; #821 Rainbow and Flowers is a workshop on living with the saints. #826 World Peace: A Family Recipe! was written by Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) and is a reflection on the vocation of marriage and family and the importance of passing peace on to the next generation.

Marriage and Family: The National Week for Life and the Family will be celebrated May 13-20, 2018 with the theme Love: Encountering the Other. COLF has put together free reproducible resources available online through the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) website

Dignity of Life: Over the years many letter writing campaigns have been initiated asking government officials to stop funding abortions. A letter forwarded to me from Sr. Jean MacDonald C.S.M. states that we need God’s intervention to stop abortions from taking place. She invites members to pray the Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe For the Unborn asking her son to obtain an end to abortions.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, we turn to you who are the protectress of unborn children and ask that you intercede for us, so that we may more firmly resolve to join you in protecting all human life. Let our prayers be united to your perpetual motherly intercession on behalf of those whose lives are threatened, be they in the womb of their mother, on the bed of infirmity, or in the latter years of their life. May our prayers also be coupled with peaceful action which witnesses to the goodness and dignity of all human life, so that our firmness of purpose may give courage to those who are fearful and bring light to those who are blinded by sin. Encourage those who will be involved in the March for Life; help them to walk closely with God and to give voice to the cry of the oppressed, in order to remind our nation of its commitment to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all people. O Virgin Mother of God, present our petitions to your Son and ask him to bless us with abundant life. Amen

Following the prayer, may I suggest councils take action on the following League resolutions:

2004.01 Protection of Human Life: write to the federal government request legislation prohibiting the termination of human life at any stage of development.

1992.05 Support Services for Pregnant Women: write to provincial and territorial governments asking for support services for pregnant women in need and to re-enforce the League’s objection to government funded women`s agencies promoting abortion on demand.

Resolutions may be viewed at under the Resolutions tab/by Position and scrolling down to Christian family life. The challenge is how to use the resolutions to educate members. Let’s follow the Holy Spirit by taking the appropriate action!

Petition of One Million 2019: A project to gather one million plus signatures to be presented to the federal government in 2019 in support of pro-life issues. Unfortunately four million children have been killed by abortion since 1969, but they can be recognized by every signature that is collected. Proclaim to all Canadians that every life must be protected from conception to natural death. Visit to download and print the signature page. Collect as many signatures as you can and send them to the address at the bottom of the petition. Please e-mail Alliance for Life Ontario at [email protected] or call (866) 588-2684 with any questions. An example is available in the PDF below.
