Relationships continue to flourish in various crea

Relationships continue to flourish in various creative ways! St. Joseph’s Basilica Parish Council (Edmonton, AB) is thrilled to have received 100 daffodil bulbs from St. Ann’s Parish Council (Abbotsford, BC) as a way for two councils to connect over a shared activity.

On September 21st, League members Anica, Anita, and Fran planted those bulbs thoughtfully gifted to them by Past President, Noli from St. Ann’s Parish Council striking a reason to connect . After a fun time planting on that beautiful sunny day the three of them enjoyed a coffee where story sharing time added to their time together. Big thank you to St. Ann’s!

May the Peace Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, whose feast is celebrated on October 4th, be an inspiration as Canadians mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th.

National President Shari Guinta is attending the Plenary Assembly of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) in King City, Ontario for its annual meeting, bringing together 79 Bishops to deliberate, discern, and discuss the life of the Church in Canada.

New League member Julia Neal (R) received her Welcome Package and Pin from 1st Vice-President Gloria Broad as President Glenda Klein (L) emcees the Happy Appy Yappy Party, hosted by St. Mary’s Parish Council (Lindsay, ON) on June 6. The meal consisted of appetizers and desserts, served with lots of conversation!

15 members and friends of St. Mary’s Parish Coun

15 members and friends of St. Mary’s Parish Council (Lindsay, ON) attended the Coronation Party on May 5th at Aunt Laura’s Tea Room in Bethan to celebrate the service of the late Queen Elizabeth and the crowning of King Charles III.

The ladies were fashionably dressed in fascinators, hats and even some gloves. The high tea included scones, jam, cucumber sandwiches and other delicacies. Members enjoyed taking part in the Royal Quiz. Each attendee was gifted with a commemorative British bracelet.

In support of the national initiative on building

In support of the national initiative on building relationship, St. Ann’s Parish Council (Abbotsford, BC) gifted a bag of Daffodil bulbs to St. Thomas More Parish Council (Calgary, AB) on the members’ visit to the city on August 23.

The gift of Daffodil bulbs not only symbolizes the exchange of beauty but also carries the hope of new beginnings and growth just like the League as it implements the strategic planning.
Exchange of pleasantries, CWL stories and food were highlights of the evening. Daffodils should be blooming at St. Thomas More Parish garden by next spring.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish Council (Kamloops, B

Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish Council (Kamloops, BC) is proud of longtime member Anne Benson who, along with her husband Pat, was recently presented with the Papal Benemerenti Medal by Bishop Joseph Nguyen.

The Benemerenti Medal is a medal awarded by Pope Francis to members of the clergy and laity for long and exceptional service to the Catholic Church.

Anne and Pat Benson witness their Catholic faith to their family and their parish community by following the Lord’s example in serving others.

There have been leaders in all aspects of parish life: Cursillo, Marriage Encounter, Catholic Education, Light of the World, Serrans, youth ministry, Parish Council, church and St. Ann’s Academy maintenance, and liturgical ministries including music ministry, eucharistic minister, ushering and reader of the Word.

Anne has been a member of the Catholic Women’s League since she arrived in Kamloops. She has been on the CWL Executive most of her adult life. She has worked on the CWL archives for more than 15 years, and has meticulously prepared a beautiful Book of Life celebrating deceased members.

Anne was president of Sacred Heart Parish Council from 1986-1989 and from 1994-1996. She has been Treasurer of the Council for many years, and also served a term as Diocesan CWL Treasurer.

Anne chaired the receptions following the episcopal ordinations of the last three Bishops of the Diocese of Kamloops – Bishop Lawrence Sabatini, Bishop David Monroe and Bishop Joseph Nguyen; and the receptions following the priestly ordinations of most of our Diocesan priests.

Kamloops Diocese has twice hosted the BC & Yukon CWL provincial conventions and Anne has chaired the food committee each time.

The Catholic Women’s League congratulates and thanks Anne & Pat Benson, worthy recipients of the Papal Benemerenti Medals for exceptional service to the Catholic Church.

This statue, Our Lady of Grace, was originally set

This statue, Our Lady of Grace, was originally set in a garden in 1998 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the St. Patrick’s Parish Council (Campbell River, BC). It had to be moved due to an addition made to the church and the installation of the columbarium. It is most fitting that this new garden now celebrates the 75th anniversary of St. Patrick’s Parish Council!

Mary, Mother of the Church Parish Council (Winnipe

Mary, Mother of the Church Parish Council (Winnipeg, MB) held their Anniversary Celebration where a total of 24 Service Pins were presented, ranging from 5 years to 60 years of service. Chartered member, Josie Van Ginkel, received her 60-year pin. Three Certificates of Merits were presented, and a Membership Scroll was presented to Evelyn Lane, daughter of Irene Vermeullen, who passed away in 2022. At the time of her death, Irene has been a member of the League for 80 years. She truly was an inspiration!

CWL delegates going on the trolley to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for Mass before the Bishop’s banquet!

August 12th is the Feast Day of St. Jane Frances d

August 12th is the Feast Day of St. Jane Frances de Chantal. She founded the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary in 1610. Jane worked tirelessly helping the sick, and she convinced local political rulers to make special provisions for the sick and the bereaved. She established eighty-five monasteries before her death in 1641.

St. Mary Parish Council (Saskatoon, SK) held a potluck supper and awards night on June 9th for their members and families.

Years of Service Pins were presented from 10 years to 65 years of service!

The highlight of the presentations was the 65 years of Service Pin presented to Jean Shirley. Jean just recently completed many years on the Council Executive, most recently as Treasurer. Congratulations!
