“We can be women who lift each other, love each other, belong to each other, women who fully receive each other, and deeply believe each other and always perceive dreams in each other.” (Ann Voskamp)

Marriage and Family: Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) is holding its 2018 COLF Conference May 31-June 1, 2018 at the Infinity Convention Center in Ottawa. The theme The Joy of Marriage: Embracing God’s Vision. Humanae Vitae at 50 encompasses the 50th anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s encyclical letter on the gift of human life. Some topics and presenters include: Dr. Michel G. MacDonald – “Marriage and Family: Icon of the Trinity”; Dr. Janet E. Smith, “Humanae Vitae 50 years Later,” also “Contraception: Why not?”; Mr. Patrick Coffin – “The Contraception Deception,” and “Natural Family Planning vs. Artificial Birth Control”; The Most Rev. Christian Lépine – “The Theology of the Body and Humanae Vitae.” For more information or to register visit colf.ca or telephone (613) 241-9461 x161.

Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB): The National Week for Life and the Family, a CCCB initiative, will take place from May 13-20, 2018. Resources have been prepared by COLF in collaboration and consultation with the CCCB and are available at cccb.ca/site/eng/media-room/4814-2018-national-week-for-life-and-the-family.

Sanctity of Life: March for Life will take place May 9-11, 2018 at Parliament Hill, Ottawa. A full schedule of events and activities is available at marchforlife.ca. Encourage members living outside the Ottawa area to visit diocesan websites to see what area activities will be taking place. As all life issues are important, encourage members and parishioners to get involved. Let government officials know we care about all stages of life.

Youth: Over 300 youth spent the week of March 19-24, 2018 at the pre-synodal meeting for the bishop’s general assembly to be held in October. Pope Francis invited the youth “to speak bravely” adding “here, we leave shyness at the door.” The youth presented the bishops with a final document to be used as the working document for the 2018 Synod of Bishops themed Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment.

The Holy Father seemed to offer his support to student activists fighting to stop gun violence. During his Palm Sunday mass in St. Peter’s square Pope Francis said, “It is up to you not to keep quiet. Even if others keep quiet, if we older people and leaders, some corrupt, keep quiet, if the whole world keeps quiet and loses its joy, I ask you: Will you cry out?”

HUSH DVD: A documentary created in collaboration by a pro-choice and pro-life team of directors and producers on the subject of the health effects of abortion on women. Visit hushfilm.com for more information and to view a list of resources utilized in the production of the documentary. Encourage councils to show the film at a meeting.

Catholic Christian Outreach – Rise Up: A conference for young adults (aged 18-35) hosted by Catholic Christian Outreach will be held December 28, 2018-January 1, 2019 in Calgary, Alberta. Rise Up exists to motivate and inspire leaders for the renewal of the world. For more information or to register go to cco.ca/riseup.

Petition of One Million 2019: A project to gather one million plus signatures to be presented to the federal government in 2019 support of pro-life issues. Unfortunately four million children have been killed by abortion since 1969, but they can be recognized by every signature that is collected. Proclaim to all Canadians that every life must be protected from conception to natural death. Invite members to visit petitionofonemillion.ca/sign-petition/ to download and print the signature page. Collect as many signatures as they can and send them to the address at the bottom of the petition. Please e-mail Alliance for Life Ontario at [email protected] or call (866) 588-2684 with any questions.

As this is my last communiqué, I want to commend the Christian family life chairpersons for the excellent work accomplished over the past year or in some cases two years. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with you. Together we make a great team working to educate members on many issues dealing life and family. Thank you for your dedication, support, and for providing me the opportunity to serve you. May God Bless you and may Our Lady of Good Counsel always guide you to make the world a better more spiritually enriched place to live in with our families.
Love & prayers

Your Sister in Christ,
