1999.08 Reduction of Export of Military Goods

Whereas, The 1996 Export of Military Goods from Canada Annual Report indicated Canada, under current export control policy guidelines, sold military goods to many countries with known human rights violations; and

Whereas, It is immoral to make economic gains at the expense of the suffering or death of other people; therefore be it

Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women's League of Canada, in 79th annual national convention assembled, urge the federal government, through the departments of foreign affairs and international trade, to review its trade guidelines and to establish standards that prohibit the sale of military goods to countries with known human rights violations.
