Effective Participation in Application of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act

Whereas, The Canadian Environmental Assessment Act provides guidelines to prevent the degradation of the environment, and invites the public to participate in policy debate; and

Whereas, The Act as it is presently written is difficult for many Canadians to understand; therefore, be it

Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women's League of Canada, in 84th annual national convention assembled, urge the federal government to

•  simplify the language of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act , thereby promoting effective participation in its application

•  produce a user-friendly guide in simple language to aid in the understanding of the Canadian Environment Assessment Act.

 

Requested Members' Action:

1. Read the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.

2. Write the federal minister of the environment regarding a user-friendly brochure; ask that the Act be rewritten in simpler language.
