Abuse of Residents in Long-term Care FacilitiesSubmitted by: Quebec Provincial Council
Whereas, The level of staffing and standard of resident care in long-term care facilities varies across Canada; and
Whereas, Documentation indicates abuse of residents in some facilities; therefore, be it
Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women's League of Canada, in 84th annual national convention assembled, encourage provincial councils to urge provincial governments to
allot adequate financial resources to improve working conditions
provide specialized training/education and support for all who work directly with residents
ensure that complaints of abuse are dealt with immediately and in an appropriate manner
review, maintain and enforce standard regulations; and, be it further
Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women's League of Canada, in 84th annual national convention assembled, encourage parish councils and members to become aware of existing policies in local long-term care facilities and become advocates for the residents.

Requested Members' Action:
1. Invite guest speakers from long-term care facilities and health professionals to speak to parish councils regarding policies.
2. Volunteer in long-term care facilities.
3. Encourage parish councils to twin or partner with long-term care facilities.
