National Strategy to Eliminate Computer-Based Child PornographySubmitted by: New Brunswick Provincial Council
Whereas, Children are among the most vulnerable people in society and require protection and guidance as they mature; and
Whereas, The federal government enacted Bill C-15A, An Act to Amend the Criminal Code and to amend other Acts, in which amendments were made to protect children from criminals on the Internet; and
Whereas, The efforts of police are hampered by the lack of resources to properly investigate individuals suspected of possessing, distributing or procuring computer-based child pornography; therefore, be it
Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women's League of Canada, in 83rd annual national convention assembled,
- commend the federal government for its efforts to protect children from criminals on the Internet by enacting amendments to the Criminal Code of Canada in Bill C-15A, and
- urge the solicitor general to expedite the implementation of a national strategy to eliminate computer-based child pornography, and
- urge the minister of justice and the solicitor general to increase funding to enable law enforcement agencies to enforce this national strategy.
Requested Members' Action:
- Write letters to the solicitor general urging that a national strategy to eliminate computer-based child pornography be developed and implemented without delay.
- Write letters to the solicitor general and the federal minister of justice requesting that the resources and expertise nation-wide be improved to enable law enforcement officers to investigate individuals suspected of possessing, distributing or procuring computer-based child pornography.
