Human Stem Cell ResearchSubmitted by: Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec Provincial Councils
Whereas, The federal government has drafted legislation on reproductive technologies including human embryonic stem cell research; and
Whereas, Extraction of human embryonic stem cells for research results in the destruction of human life; and
Whereas, Human adult stem cells can be obtained from sources that do not require the destruction of embryos and have been successfully used for therapeutic treatments; therefore, be it
Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 82nd annual national convention assembled, urge the federal government to prohibit human embryonic stem cell research; and be it further
Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 82nd annual national convention assembled, urge the federal minister of health to promote and fund human adult stem cell research for the treatment and cure of disease and tissue/organ repair.
