Spousal Benefits Under the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act (CFSA)Whereas, Spouses of Canadian Forces members significantly contribute to the ability of the Canadian Forces to serve Canada with distinction all over the world; and
Whereas, Spouses of deceased Canadian Forces members are entitled to an annuity equal to 50% of a deceased spouse's pension in accordance with the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act, Chapter C-17, Section 25 (1); and
Whereas, Spouses of deceased members of parliament are entitled to an annuity equal to 60% of a deceased spouse's pension in accordance with the Members of Parliament Retiring Allowances Act, Chapter M-5, Section 20 (1); therefore, be it
Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women's League of Canada, in 81st annual national convention assembled, urge the federal government to amend Chapter C-17, Section 25 (1) of the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act to grant spouses of deceased Canadian Forces members an annuity equal to 60% of a deceased spouse's pension.
Detailed Action Plan
- Write letters to the federal minister of national defense urging an amendment to the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act which would grant spouses of deceased Canadian Forces members an annuity equal to 60% of a deceased spouse's pension.
- Invite speakers affected by this resolution - military or former military persons and/or spouses.
