Organization Communique 6

December 14, 2011
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven…a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted…” (Eccl 3.1-2)This is the time of year for endings and new beginnings. When the weaver finishes her cloth, she cuts the threads and ties the knots, sums up all that she has created, stands back and admires her work. Annual report time in The Catholic Women’s League of Canada is just such a time for members.
Annual Reports
At all levels, chairpersons are requested to abide by the guidelines found in Leading the League, pages 98-100. At the parish level, members are invited to gather as a council or as an executive and ask as they review the 2011 calendar, “What did we do this month? Under what standing committee does it belong?” Consult the Constitution & Bylaws to find which activities belong under which standing committee. At the diocesan and provincial levels you are asked to follow the guidelines and report only what pertains to organization and not an event or activity that falls under another standing committee.
Chairpersons have also been asked to report on what actions relating to Women Against Poverty were taken that come directly under this standing committee. Like a patchwork quilt, each isolated activity contributes enormously to the beauty of the whole.
2012 Membership Challenge
There are two winners! We are delighted to report that two councils, St. Joseph Parish Council, Stratford, Ontario (electronically) and Holy Family Parish Council, Paradise, Newfoundland and Labrador (mailed) have submitted over 50% of their 2012 membership fees to national office. Thus, each council has received $250.00 to be given to their council’s local action against poverty. We have asked them to report back to us and the good news will be found in an upcoming issue of Be League.Council Anniversaries
Make anniversaries a celebration! This is a great time to look back in awe and thanksgiving (“to pluck up”), to appreciate faithful, long-standing members, to look ahead in hope and to plan for the future (“to plant seeds”).Let’s Do Lunch
Last year at the annual national convention in Toronto, about 10 chairpersons of organization from various levels got together at a nearby restaurant for lunch. This was a precious time of sharing and getting to know one another. It is being planned for in Edmonton. Hopefully you will be able to join us.Joy and peace to you!
