2006 Annual Report of New Brunswick Provincial Council, with its four active diocesan councils, was committed to living the League's Mission Statement, living ?Gospel values? ?through service to the people of God.? While members regretfully bid farewell to three councils in 2006 and recorded more than 60 deceased members, the net membership remained about the same. Members were committed to sharing the gift that is the League with all Catholic women, but celebrated the important work of those who belonged. Highlights A Friends + Bread = A Difference workshop day was held, facilitated by the national chairperson of spiritual development, with approximately 124 members and the provincial spiritual advisor in attendance. A provincial fundraising campaign was initiated to assist members in attending the 60th provincial convention (in 2007). The 59th annual provincial convention was hosted for the first time by a single, dynamic parish council in Dalhousie, and attended by the national president. In response to members' thirst for knowledge, workshops and presentations were organized about the World Union of Catholic Women's Organizations (WUCWO) and members' spiritual connection with all women. Three new life members were welcomed. Education opportunities were organized by one diocesan council for study of League literature. Fall executive meetings were held by provincial, diocesan and regional councils to disseminate communiqués and chart action for the remainder of the year and the first half of 2007. One council sponsored a council of families in developing countries. Some members supported a Bible-a-Month Club, demonstrating their faith in action. A local life member received a national award for volunteerism. A Violence Against Women workshop was presented in several parishes in one diocese. Members collected more than $1,000 in Pennies for Africa. Councils met the needs of many members whose gifts of handiwork and prayer came together through the Shawl Ministry. Members supported Birthright International and New Brunswick Right to Life organizations financially, with volunteers and through membership by the provincial council. Members celebrated a local member's receipt of a national bursary award and members' long service through certificates of merit, maple leaf service pins and milestone anniversaries. One archdiocesan council held a Kindness to One Another workshop. Many members attended the 86th annual national convention in Halifax, where education, introductions and prayer provided the context for a memorable experience.
